The Region Seventeen Graphics Library is a resource intended to resolve one of the fundemental problems that many in the region have had to face. RSGL is the repository of the Regional, Chapter, Brigade, and MSG logos that have been collected in order to provide a "one shop" resource for designers of all media. There are two types of graphics here; vector and raster. Select a type to view it's description. When possible the vector images are either Illustrator 8 format or EPS 6. This gives people with programs that can read this sort of information an old enough format to remain compatible. The JPEGs are sized at 6 inches where possible, and are 72 dots per inch (dpi). Not every logo used in the region is here. In most cases it is because we don't have it available and need to create it. As the logos are re-done in other image formats, they will be posted here. For more information, or to submit a graphic to be posted here, contact crulex@gmail.com.
This logo was designed by RADM Keira Russell-Strong, and recreated in Adobe Illustrator by FCAPT Bob Bulkeley. The Illustrator version is Illustrator 10, and has embeded raster images. This logo should not be resized above six inches for best clarity. The EPS image is in EPS 8.
The USS Anasazi logo was designed by CMDR Gary Spector in Corel Draw. The 850th MSG logo was designed by COL Greg Fitzsimmons and FCAPT Bob Bulkeley, and created in Adobe Illustrator.
The USS Mir logo was created by BGEN Nancy Lynch. Presently there are no vector versions of this logo. Give us time and we will get them created.
I don't know who created the 875th logo, and only have low quality raster graphics for them. We will get around to doing cleanups, and having large vector and raster graphics in the future.
The USS Moontype has no logo, images, or website at this time.
I don't know who designed the USS Omega Glory logo. This one was recreated in Adobe Illustrator by FCAPT Bob Bulkeley.
I don't know who desinged the USS Pioneer logo. This one was recreated in Adobe Illustrator by FCAPT Bob Bulkeley.
The USS Wind Spirit logo was created in Adobe Illustrator by FCAPT Bob Bulkeley. VECTOR IMAGESThe Adobe Illustrator files (.ai), and the Encapsulated Postscript files (EPS) are vector based images. These are used in large format art programs like Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, and Macromedia Freehand. These programs, though used to set up print graphics for publication, are ideally suited to make really large posters and banners. These images are created so that there is no loss of image quality no matter what the size of the final size of the image is. These images are always crisp and sharp. Unfortuanatly the software that allows people to create and manipulate these types of files are expensive and complicated to use. Most chapters do not have the resources to use these types of files, but if you do, Illustrator 8 and EPS 6 file types are here. RASTER IMAGESThe Joint Photographer Experts Group (.jpg) and Tagged Image Format File (.tif or tiff) are raster-based images. What that basically means is that the images are made out of different colored dots. They are not scaleable to larger sizes; if you enlarge a raster image upwards, all you do is make the dots larger. This gives the image a fuzzy appearance, and is not really well suited for large format work. You can shrink raster images with no loss of definition, the dots just get closer, and give a nice crisp appearance. Most programs that the average home user has can read both JPEGs and TIFFs. JPEGs have a resolution of only 72 dots per inch (the same as your monitor resolution) and are designed for web-based and monitor based usage. TIFFs, on the other hand, can have a variety of resolutions. The ones on this site are 300 dots per inch, and should print out very well on the average laser or ink jet printer. They are very well suited for print media, and should be the file-type of choice when making newsletters, asssuming you do not have access to the vector based software listed above.
